Farmingdale State College, a campus of the State University of New York, is a college of applied science and technology with an enrollment of more than 9,500 students. Job Description:

GIS tutoring positions periodically become available in the Department of History, Politics, and Geography in support of GEO 221 / GIS 222 (Introduction to Geographic Information Systems) and GIS 301 (GIScience). Duties involve assisting students with GEO 221 / GIS 222 and GIS 301 assignments and projects in our GIS lab during regular tutoring hours.   • At least one college-level Introductory GIS course equivalent to FSC’s GEO 221 or GIS 222
  • Working knowledge of basic ArcMap data import, editing, print layout, and toolbox operations
  • Ability to maintain a regular weekly tutoring schedule for an entire semester


  • Prior success tutoring introductory GIS students who have busy schedules, widely-varying capabilities, and complex technology anxieties
  • Working knowledge of the tutorials and exercises in the most recent edition of Maribeth Price’s Mastering ArcGIS textbook
  • Working knowledge of basic ArcGIS Online data import, mapping, analysis, and publishing
  • Working knowledge of basic ArcGIS Pro data import, mapping, analysis, and publishing
